Strangest Sounding Event that is Actually Probably Going to be Pretty Cool
What: Garry Carson's Magical Mystery Show
When: Friday, April 12, 7:00 pm
Where: Truckee High School Theater
As seen on Fox TV’s Master’s of Illusion, Carson Entertainment presents the “Magical Mystery Show” with all new magic and illusions. Proceeds from the show support Custom Learning Academy and scholarships for local students. Doors at 6pm; Show at 7p. $10 tickets in advance; $12 at the door. Tickets can be purchased online here.
Reason to go: It’s a little bit of Vegas right here in Truckee. That and the fact their promo materials include photos of a duck, a lady sawn in half, and a cheetah. Yep, I’ll be there.
Reason not to go: You’re more into dying swans than magic ducks and are headed over to the Cal Neva for Sierra Nevada Dance’s production of Swan Lake, featuring 100 talented local dancers. Friday and Sat @ 7pm; Sunday at 3pm.

Best Way to Celebrate the End of Ski Season
What: Cushing Crossing + High Camp Pool Party
When: Sat, April 13, all day
Where: Squaw Valley
A local tradition, Squaw’s annual springtime pond skimming event challenges participants to cross the vast and chilly waters of Cushing Pond on skis, a snowboard, or any ski or snowboard-based vessel. Registration starts at 9am; event kicks off at 1pm.
After you get your fill of hilarious costumes and colossal crashes, head up to High Camp for a spring pool part with DJ Silver Boombox Thief. 12pm – 3:30pm. Don’t forget your bikini.
Reason to go: Sunshine, beer, ridiculousness, brobrahs, pro athletes, celebrity judges, and lots of antics. Does it get any more Squaw Valley USA than that? Oh, and I hear the DJ at the pool party is pretty rad.
Reason not to go: You’re all tuckered out from a morning of snow golf over at Alpine. 9am start time. And the first 150 golfers get a commemorative visor.

Best Way to Have a Say in Shaping Truckee’s Future
What: Truckee Tahoe Airport Master Plan Workshops
When: Various times over the next few weeks, see link below
Where: Various locations
Help shape the future of our airport and the parts of our community affected by it. These Community Workshops are an opportunity to learn about the airport and provide comment on its future. The two-hour, open house-style meetings will be held at various times and locations over the next few weeks. See the full schedule here. The series of meetings kicks off this Saturday with a Pilots workshop at 10am and a General workshop at 2pm.
Reason to go: Your friends may have stopped listening to you whine about the flight path over your house, but these folks haven’t.
Reason not to: Why do you care whether or not snooty Martis Camp folks can park their fancy jets here, right? You’ve got better things to do, like play a round of golf at Ponderosa. Oh wait…
