What: Rahlves Banzai Tour Kick-off Party
Where: Hacienda del Lago, Tahoe City
The rowdiest ski and snowboard race in the Sierra kicks off with a party benefiting High Fives Foundation. The evening includes $2 tacos and $2 beers, entertainment, and a live raffle for cool stuff like a pair of skis and a VIP package for the Banzai Tour’s final weekend at Sugar Bowl. Daron Rahlves will be on hand signing autographs and registering athletes.
Reason to go: Cheap food, cheap beer, you might win some skis, and you can claim you partied with Daron.
Reason not to go: Cottonwood’s Thursday Night All-Night Long Happy Hour.

Best Way to Score Free Wine While Supporting Local Arts

Where: Downtown Truckee (La Galleria & Riverside Studios); Community Recreation Center
As part of Downtown Truckee’s monthly First Fridays event, participating shops and restaurants offer complimentary art, food, drinks, and music. This Friday a few stops not to miss are:
Wine & Dorinda’s Chocolate Tasting at La Galleria, 10112 Donner Pass Road. Chocolate and wine, right?
2nd Annual Lion Heart Art Show at Riverside Studios, 10060 Donner Pass Road. This art show features local artists creating masterpieces on 10x10” wood panels. Each panel will be sold for $100, with a portion benefiting the CR Johnson Healing Center. DJ One Truest will be spinning and refreshments will be served.
Truckee Public Arts Commission’s Fiber Arts Opening Reception at the New Community Rec Center, featuring local artists, food, and beverages.
Reason to go: Support our local artists; if you’re lucky, they might offer you a glass of wine.
Reason not to go: Zepparella (all-girl Zepplin tribute band) at the Crystal Bay Club Crown Room. 10pm. And it’s free!

Best Place to Cheer the 49ers to Victory
What: Squaw Valley’s Super Bowl Party
When: Fun starts at 11am; kickoff is at 3:30pm
Where: KT Base Bar, Squaw Valley
Watch the game on a 16x21 foot, 49-panel “Diamond Vision” screen. Festivities are planned throughout the day, including giveaways and promotions before, during, and after the game. If Squaw’s not your thing, other Super Bowl options are here.
