Because what Truckee needs...

Because what Truckee needs... another Mexican restaurant.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's not exactly the newest concept in town, but it's not necessarily a terrible one either. I mean, tacos and tequila...what's not to love?

Let me start by saying I don’t think it’s fair to review any restaurant right after it opens, let alone one that opens during Christmas week in Tahoe. (Which, since I’m on the subject, who is crazy enough to do that?) I’ve been to Marg’s twice now, and while they are obviously working out a few just-opened kinks, I think it’s going to be a cool new option for downtown dining. That, and the margaritas are delicious.

My first trip there, we sat at the bar for lunch and continuously remarked on the restaurant’s hip vibe and the awesome roll up windows that will create a fun indoor-outdoor bar scene come summer. The bartender was friendly and attentive, and the food (salsa sampler, enchiladas, arugula salad) was pretty tasty.

I went back the next day with family in tow. The food took over an hour to come out and was less than stellar (we had to send our rather small, bland tacos back because they were so cold). But, that being said, the margaritas were still delicious and our server was awesome, making the wait as bearable as possible with extra chips, tortillas, and infused tequila.

So, I’m going to give them a couple weeks to catch up from the holiday crush and try it again. In the meantime, I’ll leave you with a list my son wrote of all the good things about Marg’s.

Ultimately, I don’t think they will have any trouble getting their act together, and I think we will end up with another cool downtown hang. I believe this is the third restaurant for the group from Colorado, and they seem to know how to create a fun, inviting space. Rumor has it they plan to a burger spot next door, because, you know, Truckee needs another burger place. Maybe they’ll open a pizza parlor down the road, too.
